We are upgrading to a bigger evaporator and are very sad to be parting ways with our 2x8 Silverplate Dropflue Evaporator. This wood fired, air-tight evaporator has served us well over 2 sugaring seasons making around 1200 gallons of syrup total. It includes a hood with a preheater that gets sap up to 180-190 degrees before entering the rear pan and the whole evaporator is on casters for easy movement. It has a blower under the arch and valves allow the flow of sap to be reversed in the front pan without shutting down. It includes a float box with site glass, 2 thermometers, 10' of steam stack, a stack cover for one of the stacks and 14-16' of smoke stack (including base stack and 2 sections of insulated metalbestos pipe). It also comes with firebrick, insulation and gasket although it will need to be re-bricked as our mortar has started to crumble. Our best estimate is that this 2x8 can boil between 85-95 GPH. The only issues are 2 small scorch marks in the front pan. This evaporator has many years of service left in it.
