I inquired about CharlieVT's design and copied/modified it a little. I made mine so I could pull the pins and put the original doors on if needed. Has been working good so far.IMG_0529.jpgIMG_0530.jpg Hope the pics come through

2012 Kubota with forks to move wood around
The angle iron was 3/16" thick. The front and inside plates are 10 ga. Even though the inside plate is stainless, it warped from the heat. Going to make a new one out of 3/16". Lots of trial & error on the latch but it didn't turn out too bad. I cannot believe the factory doesn't sell a sealed door for these, even as an option. The 2 piece design is horrible.
Nice looking door you made, but I did wonder about the absence of insullating blanket on the inside. My suggest would be to dispense with metal on the inside of the door. No matter how thick the metal is, it will deform under the heat, and it won't insulate like insulating blanket will. I looked at evaporators at Leader's and Bascom's showrooms and tried to copy. Blanket fills the door itself and also projects into the opening in the arch front a few inches.
Check post number 9 in this thread. PerryFamily post of their door. Arch blanket supported by stainless bolts and retained with washers.
I think you'll be happier if you do something like that rather than fabricating thicker metal on the inside of the door.

If anyone might be interested I'm switching to natural gas next year (To old to throw wood anymore)and I will be taking apart a intense o fire arch. Will have a 3' air tight door, (air cooled)grates, control levers, blower and duct work. You can contact me if you want to make your arch airtight with aof and auf.
Here is a insulated door build for a 3 x 10 std two door evaporator. Used some of Daryls concepts to get started. The old doors could be put back on but will not as long as I am using it. This handle can almost be sued with out gloves.
to be continued (only can post 4 pictures)
