View Full Version : Tapping
So when is everyone thinking of tapping this year (2019). Each year I tap and it is usually to early or to late. I’d like to be just right this year.

I'm always antsy at the start of the season and cabin fever makes me tap too early even though i usually get an early run. But then i'm fighting ice and it's a pain. Going to try to hold off until mid march this year if i can wait that long.
I going with 16th & 17th this year.
Good run today in Great Meadows.

Good run today in Great Meadows.
Hows your season so far?
I've boiled 3 times so far a total of 620 gallons and have about 10+ gallons of finished syrup. A cold few days and then sap should be running again on Friday or Saturday.
Good luck to you

Good to see my tri-state sugar-ers are going strong. I haven't participated in a few years but I want to getting going again. Still searching for an economical way to evap. I can get sap, got that part figured out, I just can't boil it down in an efficient manner. Every time I hear snow melting/dripping, I associate it with sap running.
And my numbers were always about the same as yours appear to be @sugarwoodacres - 60:1
Good luck to all.

Yesterday was our 2nd boil of the year. Only 650 gal of sap so far total. The first boil just sweetened the pans. Yesterday's boil of 350 gals yielded 10 1/4 gallons of syrup. All a nice amber. It was real fun breaking all of the ice out of the tanks. Will have more once the sap runs again this weekend.
Good run around the 20th to the 26th. Then again this past weekend but the snow is making it tough to collect. I just use propane burners 3 of them. I usually get about 4 gals or so a year. Fun to finally get outside in the early spring. Should be flowing good this coming weekend.
