just got done boiling 62 gals. from this week, 2% sugar content was getting 9 gph on my evap. all was going good untill the end , the fire was still going pretty good and it didnt look close to syrup so i so i let it go a little longer than i normaly do in my pan and before i knew it it started to foam and it was syrup and then past syrup. me and my 9 year old son were in a panic, pulled the pan checked the syrup with the hydrometer and saw we went to far. i hope i can just a sap on the stove to thin it out, going to try in the morning.

You should be fine thinning it with sap, I take mine off heavy and thin it down when bottling.

My set up I should do a whole thread on one day,I finish all my syrup on evaporator,I have a piece of sheet metal that I slide under the pan to cut off the heat then regulate with blower speed and fire size to finish, did all 14 gallons last year like this n keeps me from propane or in the house.Les from Ohio State ext.couldn't believe the idea said that is a great idea,I was out there at a fair last year where they had a sugar set up to educate people!

QUOTE]i would like to see how you finish on you pan and your setup, thats a good idea putting the sheet metal under your pan. that is one of my main problems getting the pan off to drain the near syrup.

30 gallons collected today . some lines nothing and others full. I run 3-5 trees to a 5 gallon bucket on tubing. Boiled 120 gallons yesterday down to about 2 and 1/4 gallons . Not impressed yet but the last couple years big runs come around the 20th so I am still hopeful.Good Luck to all

I hope you are right Sugarwood. Not so good so far... 1.25 qts of syrup out of 14 taps. Thought we would get a decent run today, but.. Zilch. Only bright side is sugar content is running a bit higher this year ~2.2%
Good luck everyone!
