I bottled 17 gallons and lost a couple gallons right on the floor, left the spigot open on my bottler one night, lost a couple gallons. Didn't get sap volume i had hoped, probably a function of the flat swamp and red maples i tap on gravity. Low sugar content didnt help either, but had a fun run of it.. Nice work 5050 et al.

We all make mistakes from time to time. "Early" in the season my daughter came up to help me collect the sap. First time I ever had help loading the sap trailer to bring it back to the sugar house. Well, I accidently left the valve open on one of my collection tanks. Lost about 100 gals of sap. Will see today if I have any more sap and if it's any good. Will pull taps. Tomorrow will be the final boil. Sap or not, I'll have about 4 gal of syrup from the evap.

Brought back 200 gal of sap yesterday. Nite temps for Sat & Sun are suppose to be mid 20's. Didn't hear any peepers last night. I'll be staying there overnight since the Boy Scouts are coming up and doing some repair work on a 60 yr old lean-to. Guess I'll see if any run happens Sunday before I clean out the evap for the season. Might as well get every last drop...

Yea I don't waste anything, what kills me when I go out to breakfast with the guys at work and I bring the syrup and some leave a POOL on there plate,so what I do now is who ever plate is the cleanest get what's left in the bottle if any.

Think about making the loser spend a day making the sweet stuff. They don't know how much work goes into making it. Split a little wood, collect buckets, clean out the arch, make and stoke a fire, test for syrup, filter and bottle. Will probably lick the plate clean the next time.

:) all great ideas for folks to appreciate the work that goes into making a pint of syrup!
