Looks like after this weekend's pick up the season may be over. Getting too warm at night. I hope not. Only made 31 gallons of syrup so far. Only med and dark. Didn't get there in time to get the very first runs. Had 100 gal ice cubes in the tanks.

Been watching the silvers swell this week, reds arent far behind, they are the majority of what I tap. Boiling tonight, been bouncing all season 57:1 to 70:1 but thats what i have to work with here, dont really want to haul sap. Doesn't smell buddy yet, but temps aren't looking good for sapping. Fingers crossed, would love to make more syrup. All in all its been a fun season, had some great tour groups and the kids loved it, not something they see too often in NJ. Rare and endangered species here, NJ boilers, keep it going!

That sounds cool,I'm in the same boat 55,60 to 1 gal syrup but better than none,it just shrinks my wood pile a little,I use mostly oak some locust hot hot hot! With the blower I was able to finish all my batches on the oil tank evaporator! No other heat sources used!

As long as the last batch isn't burnt, it will have the most maple flavor. That is either dark amber at the darker end of the scale, or grade B. Both are very good sellers for me. In fact, last year I made 335 gal, of which only 12 were light, 85 were medium,175 dark, 34 B and 29 C. Of those I sold out of my B first, And I blended 6 of my light in with my medium. I still have some light left, in all sizes but I had to buy a barrel each (40 gal med. and 30 gal dark) to meet my sales. The dark is my best seller, but while it lasts, B is my second best.

You correct the darker sells 3to1 the people love the robust flavor,I sell to guys at work and they buy JARS at a time.I give a lot away also! Its been a good year one more blast it looks like,I've made a few gals have to add it up yet. As I eat my oatmeal with syrup on it as I type.

I guess we just get spoiled by years like last year. Depending on what I pick up tommorow looks like I'll make a little over 1/2 of what I made last year. Still better than 2012.
