I tapped 60 last night and will do 30 more tonight. I probably wouldn't tap this early, but I have to be away from it all for the first two weeks of February and I am worried I won't get my minimum personal quota if I don't. We've developed quite a taste for the stuff...

I hear ya, I switch to other trees later in the year but with a wedin to go to in march, and lambs bein born, and steelies runnin in march its a busy season this year

I was expecting a huge flow with the sudden thaw.. boy was I let down. out of my 100 and some odd taps I only gathered about 80 gallons. And most of this was what was hanging frozen in the bags. I was unable to get much out of my trees on tubing, as there is about 15 gallon iceberg in the bottom of the barrel. I just left them until tomorrow. they will thaw enough that I can likely slide my food grade bilge pump down in there and extract the liquid.
