It's not at all unusual for my trees to start running, then we hit a cold snap and the run freezes for a week or more. Then when it warms up again, the run resumes. May need to check the taps to ensure that they aren't pushed out a bit by the freeze. Leave your taps in the trees. Don't *unplug* them til the season's done.

If however, you don't want to collect sap for a few days, give it away or dump it.
Been tapping since 2008, but mostly unexceptional til recent years.

Just took a quick look at the long range for my area. I can't see myself tapping until late in the second week of March. Possibly waiting until the 13. That said, forecasts can change quickly. We are all ready to tap in. Only takes an afternoon to pound in 50 or 60 spiles.

We are thinking about going this Saturday down by the St. Lawrence near Prescott. Not really liking those -11 nights next week though. Got about 120 pails to put out.

Got some chains for the Sap Hauler this year. Snow is super deep in the bush and I am expecting a mess when the big thaw comes. I don't think we've hardly had a day above 0 all February. Haven't had many big snowfalls but it has just added up.

They seem to work pretty good on the hills. We have to haul our trailer-tank about a mile each trip to get to the back of the lot and then back to our tote.

We got 3100 taps drilled on the weekend. Over 2 feet of fluffy snow in the woods so snowshoes are more trouble than they are worth. The only way to go about it was to wade through it with brute force and ignorance. The fitness app says 50,000+ steps and 7,000+ calories burned in 2 days. We'll get the rest done on Saturday and hope to run the pumps in Sunday so we can check for the worst of the leaks.
