Hey everyone, I've posted on Maple Trader off and on and I've been checking the website constantly learning new things. Thanks everyone for all the great information. Quick background on me: Grew up in the country and got started tapping maples when I was a young teenager and convinced my grandpa to start tapping (he still does it on a small scale to this day). Eventually graduated college, joined the military where I deployed in support of OEF (Afghanistan) and now while proud of my service I'm looking to get out and get back into the woods and do sugaring seriously with my wife and three kids. I'm looking for an existing operation, ideally an old-timer looking to retire to buy (and ideally to learn from the seller during the transition). I'm NOT looking for any handouts, just mention the veteran thing to shine a little light on my character and what I'm about. The benefit of the situation I'm in now (being in the military) is I can move anywhere when I'm ready to leave, but ideally I'd like to move to MN, WI, or Michigan, but I've heard New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine are beautiful too (and being from Minnesota I can handle the winters) so I'm open to anywhere. If there is anyone out there looking to retire or sell, I'm looking for an operation between 2,000-5,000 taps (doesn't have to be tapped now as long as the potential is there). If you look like a good fit we can start talking money then. If I find the right place, I can start the transition as early as January 2017 so we have some time to plan. I am a big planner so I'm thowing this out there now (and I'd could visit during the next sap run of 2016 and help out for free for a week or two as well). Thanks for any information and considering. If I can't find anything, don't worry about me, I have some other less ideal ways to get back into the woods, will just have to start a lot smaller and will take more time than I want to expand. God Bless!
