Well that season went by quick. Some people around me have pulled taps already, however, I had a small run yesterday and will likely have another one today as it got down to 28 this morning. I will be getting ice in the sap totes to keep it cold today, RO overnight and do my final boil tomorrow. I think this next 48 to 72 hours will be well above freezing and I don’t want all my tubing to grow any extra mold if I can help it so I am pulling taps tonight.
Also yesterday during the sap run around 2:00 I noticed that not all my tubing runs were flowing. All my tubing was installed and tapped in a 72 hour window. The first run I tapped was not flowing yesterday and the second was much slower than all the others that were installed closer to the end of that 72 hour window. This was evidence enough for me to wait until the last minute to tap. I did not miss any sap buy tapping later but I would have missed out on these past two days of sap if I would have tapped earlier.
