    Default Prefiltering sweet

So we dump and clean the evaporator (flu and syrup pans on 18x48 Vision raised flu wood fire). Wondering if anyone filters the sweet before they put it back in the evaporator. Tons of nitre and it seems counter productive putting it back in a clean pans. I haven't try sending it through a prefilter through (SL vac filter/canner).

We do. it gets filtered as we drain it off the front pan and into a bucket. then we get the front pan washed up and put it back in. seems to work well. not sure how much it saves prolonging the next cleaning but i'm sure it helps some.

I run sweet though pre-filters when draining. Then decant it when putting it back in the evaporator. Easy steps that seem to work well for me.

Every morning after I boil the day before, I drain the pan through a prefilter into a 5 gallon bucket. I then clean the pan, getting the foam off the sides and the bottom as clean as possible - so far not much scrubbing and no scraping this year. It's nice to see the sweet going in the clean pan look clear and the pan starting clean with each boil.

I pump front and then rear pan through a DIY filterpress in made using a guzzler pump and a stainless inline filter (using DE in it): https://a.co/d/0Iienji

Recirculate each until clear after some initial brushing after each boil.

Definitley keeps pans WAY cleaner and improves flavor of syrup (no niter flavor).

We do. About every 3rd cook or if the sap has potential of sitting in the back pan for more than a day pending sap flow. We pump it out of the flue pan with filter press into a SS tub on wheels that gets rolled outside for quick cooling. Flue pan gets soaked overnight with permeate and powerwashed. Sweet is pumped out of the vat into the fluepan with filter press through bypass valve. Sparkling clear sweet.
After every cook we filter and store the front pan sweet while the pan soaks with permeate.

Permeate does clean the pan. As the season progresses we add some vinegar to break down the mineral build up.
