    Default 2025 tough

Anyone else having the worst weather for sap? Just not hitting the right temps or something. Too cold, too warm. Just not in the sweet spot. I’ve had taps out since mid January and collected less than a gallon per tap.
2013-2019 - pots, blocks, buckets, and smoke in the eyes. Couple gallons here and there.
2020 - Smoky Lake 2x4 divided pan on oil tank arch. 100 taps on bags. 21 gallons.
    2021 - 110 taps on bags. Pre-heater experiments. 31 gallons.
2022 - 14 taps on bags, 85 taps on 3/16 gravity. Pre-heater made of 3/8”x40’ copper tubing wrapped around flue working pretty good. 12 gallons
2023-2025 143 taps on 3/16 gravity. Two collection points. Used oil burning nozzle in arch.

I'm 100 miles due north of Detroit, haven't drilled a tree yet. Plowed half mile lane back to woods Friday, see it's blowed shut again. Been watching 10 day forecast and have 3-4 days in the high 30's this week so may start drilling mid week and hook the pumps up, check for leaks, and be ready to go for the season.

Not here in southern Ohio. It's been a sap tsunami from January 30th through the 16th. The last week has been froze up but it started running some yesterday and looks good all week.

My first year in SW MO and its been tough to gauge. Tapped the beginning of February. Had three nights above freezing before the snow and the next 4 nights are above freezing. Maples are starting to turn red. Not sure how long it will last.

All of a sudden this week after those weeks of cold, my lines finally ran. Got 1.6 gallons per tap from Monday to Friday. Boiling it now. Maybe I’ll break even on my expenses after all!

Wow, that extended forecast looks like this might be the season that wasn't! Looks real tough! likely a few days at best. You will get some but not a lot. Vacuum will be a beg help, the higher the better if you have it, in order to get the most possible, but then keeping it cold until you can get it all boiled could be a chore for sure.
Dave Klish, I recently bought a 2x6 wood fired evaporator from A&A Sheet Metal which I will be converting to oil fired
Now have solar, 2x6 finish pan, 5 bank 7x7 filter press, large water jacketed bottler, and tankless water heater.
Recently bought another Gingerich RO, this one was a 125, but a second membrane was added thus is a 250, like I had.
    After running a 2x3, a 2x6, 3x8 tapping from 79 taps up to 1320 all woodfired, now I'm going to a 2x6 oil fired and a 200-425 taps.

Well, at least the tradeoff for a shorter maple season is worth it. No zoning/building codes, better weather with less snow, WAY WAY way way lower property taxes, and very low population density with everyone around me being super nice. I do have 25 sycamore taps out there for something different. Didn't get to make black walnut syrup other than a taste test. Hoping to make some pine cone, shagbark hickory and sorghum syrup at some point this year. Either way, next year will be better.

I’ve had 6 weeks of season before starting mid January and then ending beginning of March. Usually at least four weeks though. Not this year. Here in KS/MO it gets warm FAST and then everything molds and it’s done.
