    Default Hillcrest Maples 2025

Took yesterday off of work to get the taps in anticipating today’s run. After listening to Jeff Corey on Sapchat talk about the importance of getting the lines perfect I ended up only getting 130 of 230 in. But what’s in is pitched perfect and tight. Came home today to 0” on the guzzler. Diaphragm screw came loose! Did a nascar speed diaphragm change, threw 5 gallons of water in the collection tank to prime the recirc line, dialed in and was hammering 26” within 5 minutes. Will tap the rest this weekend and get the pan cleaned. Away we go!!

For all of you who are holding out- You made the right decision. 230 taps in, only the field rows were dripping on Monday, we pulled in a whopping 15 gallons of sap. Not even enough to call the lines flushed! The 10 day forecast is great but it’s real bad at predicting wind. O well, had to try.

Ya, this year is really trying our patience. I have been holding off on tapping myself.
Not very far from you, and my 10-day outlook looks like crap.........28,28,24,27,25,24,23,22,24,18 for highs. Much more of this stuff, and we'll be tapping in March!

    Default When are we tapping??

    All-
Right with both of you so far. I have always used the last zero degree night plus three days as the tap in date. This year that may be the last day in February.
February 18 looks like 4 for a low and 19 for a high, gradually warming after that. So that may be the date.
    Patience. We'll see.
Not very far from either of you.
2015- Didn't know my new property enough to tap anything. 4-feet of snow on the ground.
2016- 41 Taps with home made barrel evaporator. Made 1.5 gallons syrup.
2017- 79 Taps with home made block arch evaporator. Made 2.47 gallons syrup
2018- 91 Taps again with home made block arch. Homemade RO worked great. Made 6.96 gallons syrup.
2019- 84 Taps. Building another arch. RO in place. New Smoky Lake 2x4 Divided Pan. Everything switched to 3/16" tubing.

Saps flowing now! Pulled 50 gallons of 1.25% in by 5pm. Still running, guzzler holding steady at 27”. 20” at the last tap 700’ away and 20’ higher than the pump. I’ll be chasing micro leaks of squirrel chews by headlight for the rest of the week. First time in 6 years we’ve had chews this bad.

yeah the squirrels are terrible some years. mine arent as bad this for some reason. I think because we haven't been feeding the birds so no draw to the house. they are going elsewhere for food. I don't know...
