    Default Buying Sap

    Hi All,

Just curious what is a fair $$$ for sap?
I have a local producer that is tapping maybe 30% of his woods. Hes set up to tap 100% but choses to
I have the capacity to concentrate and boil more sap than my property provides.
This is a hobby production, and I'd be looking to buy maybe 1k gallons.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks
    Bryan

50% of what the volume of sap makes. That is why it depends on the sugar in the sap. Then there is trucking ect,

So, for arguments sake, lets say it's 1000 gallons of 1.5%.
Correct me, but I'm seeing 17 gallons of syrup.
Are we then paying 50% of what 17 gallons of syrup is worth (retail, bulk, etc)?
    If I sell at 60/gallon, do I then pay 30$ x 17 gal = $510
    Thanks

That is bulk price, not retail because you have to bottle it and advertise it, then sell the syrup. Bulk is $2.20-2.30 a pound x 11 pounds to a gallon. $24.20-$25.30 a gallon. 17.44 gallons divided by 2 = 8.72 x 11= 95.92 x $2.20 = $211.02 I hope this make sense.

    Thanks.
    this makes perfect sense.
I was correct in the math, other than using my retail expecatations versus bulk.
    Good information!
    Thanks All,

The average price for sap in my area is 65% of bulk price. There are some that are paying 70%.

We buy a decent amount of sap.
Just pay percentage based on sugar content per gallon of sap.
Cornell has a chart for it
