Default Getting all the Syrup out of the Filter Press?

    Hello,

I was wondering what the best way to get all of the remaining syrup out of the filter press when finished filtering. I understand many people just open the press up and dump the trapped clean syrup and unfiltered back into another tank to be filtered the next operation. Is it an ok practice to allow the diaphragm pump to slowly push air into the press to force the remaining syrup out? Will the air disrupt the DE and papers causing it to push the unfiltered material through the clean syrup outlet? I just finished filtering my last batch, and need some help on getting the remaining syrup out.

    Thanks

I run a large filter press, but its not for syrup , and we use air to clear out the core. It takes a lot and would probably destroy paper filter cloth, we use nylon. FYI we use blast of 140 psi. Maybe try 10psi blast for starters and move up from there.

For my small hand pump filter press I leave it together and use hot water to pump the remaining syrup out. Only takes a couple of pumps then you will start to see the diluted syrup and water, which you can save and boil off the water.

Use either hot sap or hot water to push out the remaining sugar in the press. Collect in a separate container and put back in the evaporator for next boil.

When my filter press gets "full", I run air through it until all of the syrup comes out that will. I then run hot sap through it and add it back to the evaporator.
