I have a 9" CDL vacuum filter and this 1.5 gallon 2.0 hp shop vac

I'd say get one with more vacuum. This one sucks, but I think it would do better with more suction.

Why not use a vacuum pump instead? Something like this

One thing to consider with a dedicated vacuum pump is the low volume, but high static vacuum. If you have any leaks in the filter where things don't seal tight the vacuum pump won't have enough volume to create vacuum. At least this is what I learned with my homemade vacuum filter - it doesn't have a perfect seal between the upper and lower compartments. I initially tried using a Harbor Freight vacuum pump, but with the leaks it wouldn't pull any vacuum in my tank. I switched to a small shop vac, and that seems to create enough volume and static pressure to create sufficient vacuum.

can you put up a pic of the connection between your shop vac and your press? I'd like to see what the adapters look like

Hi Brian, I'm not sure exactly in cfm but if you are gonna use a shop vac type vacuum, we recommend 5hp and over

How are you all connecting the vacuum to the filter? I am struggling to find a way to adapt it

I used a rubber Fernco that fit the vacuum hose and used pvc fittings to match up.
