So I stopped trying to count actual sap received, and instead only need to know the flow rate of the sap and the amount of sap I have on hand. To measure flow rate, I don't try gph, I just count how often my sump is lifting sap into my storage system. If its once per 1/2 hr, then its matching my boil rate.
Between 10:00-11:00 flow rate was once/hour
Between 11:00-12:00 flow rate was once/43 mins
Between 12:00-1:00 flow rate was once/23 mins
Between 1:00-2:00 flow rate was once/22 mins
So I know exactly what you mean Karen...and this could last for another 7 hours. Luckily I have enough storage available...and the arch is at nearup temperature (+6F), so I will draw that off in the next hour or two which in turn will make even more space for sap.
I measured the brix of my sap and its currently @ 3.5%...I've not had it higher than this, but I have had it as low as 2.5%
I think we are in for some great flows over the next few days.
