    wear rubber gloves when working with tubing. the salt and oil from your skin will atract them also.

    I do commercial Christmas light installation and squirrels like chewing thru the wires and I just think they like the feel of chewing plastic/poly and having salt and other enticing chemicals gives them hope its worth chewing deeper.

    If you have a local cub scout troop you could get rid of the squirrels and help them get their marksmen badge as the same time (and maybe sell some syrup to the parents).

    Chocolate baking chips take care of them too as they can't pass chocolate.
