Wind Storm April 28th

What a terrible day in Canada and the US.

Power was out for a few hours. Hydro poles were snapped off. Trees downed power lines all over the place.

Lost at least 11 taps in the bush. 2 trees went over mainlines, but didn't harm them. One was a 3 foot soft maple, but it was just the ends of the limbs that hit one mainline. It did break the star at the end though.



Another single tap hard maple broke off at the ground and smushed the mainline into the ground.

Had a close call.







Turns out it only buckled the lid a bit.

Got all the trees off the mainlines and the tank yesterday.

Lost a hard and a soft in our bush as well as 3 beech. Lost 2 soft maples and a yellow birch in one neighbours bush and 2 hard maples in the other neighbour's bush. Lots of work I didn't need.

Thought my outside wood piles that are between trees would blow down with the shifting trees, but only one pile lost a bit. Did lose some of the sheet metal I had on top of them.

Anybody else have damage?

forgot picturesWe lucked out I think,this big beech dropped over the new mainline,but it was just the top.When we cut it off the wire and mainline seemed to "memory" back to place.Did you find grates after argohauler,as I may be placing the order for the new rig this week?

It looks like you were lucky that the ground was wet, it shoved that tank down into the ground a bit!

Sorry to see the damage, that one tree looked like it had a rotten center anyway.

So it also looks like you have some firewood ready for cutting and splitting.

Yes it did get shoved down in the mud a bit. I got the top all cut up and I'm leaving the trunk till the fall. I have a lot of dead wood to clean up yet. Got 2/3 of the wood shed to fill and the ground is getting dry enough that I'm starting in the garden.

Bruce was that the mainline you replaced after the lightning strike?

Haven't found any grates yet. They are 3' long.

It was terrible up around St. Sauveur Quebec

MY dad & I went up to clean up a bit,we had 35 trees across the 327 on the way home, almost exclusively pine

Luckily that was the mainline on the other side of the tank building from the lightning strike,however my wife still wasn't happy to see that new Leader mainline down that we had just put up in Feb.,but it seemed to just creep back to where it belonged after we removed the limbs from it.I believe our grates are 3' long,will take pics some day so you can see what they are like.

We lost about 5 maples in that wind storm and I have 3 mainlines to repair because of it, plus some laterals. One pine tree beside a beaver flood broke off below the ground! Luckily it blew away from and not onto the hydro line it was standing beside. I'm always worried about losing a tank like (almost) happened to Argo when we get a storm like that through!

Before that wind storm I was worried we might not have enough evaporator wood for next season - now I'm worried about where I'm going to put it all!

My uncle had a maple uproot a couple years ago and totally smash a 200 gallon milk tank.

Start piling the wood up between trees close to the shanty ennismaple!

A lot of that wood that came down is gonna be cut in the fall or winter.
