Default Tapping Monongalia County - 2025

I'm going to start tapping on 1/23.
Finally a "normal" winter. I'm excited. Weather was near zero last night and -11 tonight, then mid 30's on Thursday with some sun. That sounds good to me. I hope the trees agree. I added a bunch of vacuum gauges so I can check individual sections. I'm trying to be more diligent about my vacuum this year. That's all that I can control. Can't control the weather. Long distance forecast for February looks pretty good. I can't wait. : )

2015 - built home made RO - thanks to Mattatuck Madness for plans
2013 - move to WV - New Half Pint Evaporator - 80 taps - Bender Releaser from eBay with eBay Gast pumps - new building
2012 - got divorced - moved from PA - lost farm

    2000 - 15 taps
1997 - 5 taps - cooked in roast pans on free gas well
    1996 - 1 tap - gas grill

we are in Hardy County, after this freeze up I'm not sure we will have enough daylight/warmth for the trees to thaw and start running for a few days. The temp swings look good after the 23rd. Post back and let us know what you get. I am thinking Feb 1st unless the weather changes my mind, lol....which it could... We are all feeling the itch after an actual winter so far.

This year started off slow, but last Sunday 2/9 I saw some of the best sap flow that I have seen in several years. It continues and the weather has been great. Not too warm. No spoiled, milky say. Occasional freezes. I'm as happy as a clam. This is the best season that I seen in several years.
