Thermal Generator
Has anyone tried using a series of Peltier modules to build a Thermal Generator that could be used to power the lights in the sugar shack. I'm going to try it as a little experiment. Not sure it will be powerful enough to work but if anyone has tried it that would be great.

How much power could you reasonably expect to generate? The ones I've seen will run a tiny fan and that's it.

I'm hoping to generate enough power for a 16 inch USB under cabinet light that draws 5w. I'm following the design from the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaT2hqHgLdY I'd place it on my arch, past my pan and either add snow or run copper tubing with my cold sap through the top.

What could you run off six feet of 500 degree stack (with nearly 250 square inches of hot pipe per foot)?

Conceivably, it might provide enough power to run a fan to give me AUF. They probably need around 100 - 150 watts. Could be a fun project.

Have not tried it... but it is an awesome idea.... I will keep a close eye on this thread...
My little solar charging system (that I use for lighting around the shack) takes a beating when I boil through the night...
Seems to me that a hot chimney pipe in the cold night air is the perfect recipe for a peltier charging system. (assuming we can build one for less than a gas-powered generator)
Would a fan, at the top of the stack outside that turns a tiny generator be enough to at least run a bulb or 2 (LED) that use under 10 watts? Would, that be bad restricting the flow at ALL?Originally Posted by eeks
It could charge a battery all day, say a cellphone or something small that could run a bulb or 2. Almost like a wind turbine but in a MUCH smaller scale

I received all the components so going to assemble it today and try it out next weekend. I’m thinking it may not generate enough power to maintain the 5 watt light continuously but I have a USB battery pack that I can use to charge slower. 2BE654DA-B0AA-4279-9804-A333F874EE86.jpg
