We found the end of line hooks by Lapierre and D&G work great for us, we tap a fence staple into the bark to hook into. Its easy and on older trees it doesn't need to be driven much past the bark.

cdl end line tee.jpg I've been using the cdl end line tee. Put a loop of tubing around the tree on the open ends, and start your lateral on the plug end, Keeps sap from hangin out on the backside of the tree.
