Just wondering how everyone in wi did this year for syrup. we packed up our equipment on sunday and called it a year. we didnt do so hot this year, we went from 55 gallons of syrup last year down to 9 gallons of syrup this year. oh well always next year. how did you guys do?

Talked to 2 retailers that I run with and 1 did 190 gallons down from about 325 in 09 and the other is at 350 from 600+ last year. I lent my vac pump and releaser to the one guy for his gravity woods and he said it saved him.

I did great this year. I tapped Haynes bush since he wasn't useing it and made oddles of syrup. More then I did last year. What you doing next year Haynes.

We were down 28% from last year.

Last year I had 10 taps in the yard and made 3.25 gallons of syrup. This year I had 50 taps and made 7.5 gallons of syrup. I was expecting a total of about 10 gallons based on a 0.2 gallon per tap average, but ended up at 0.15 gallons per tap. Part of the problem was that my red maples just never really ran this year.

By far it was a bummer,lots of work lots of ceaning for 51 gallons of syrup.Mostly med to med-dark.Next year I am going to go with a real vaccum and maybe a few more on the line.What the heck it's better than a sharp stick in the eye.LOL

This was my first year and I had 14 taps all on Sugar Maples. Made 2.5 gallons of syrup. Only had taps in for three weeks but I thought it went ok for my first year. My wife thinks I'm nuts!

I made about 61 gallons out of about 300 trees I was hoping for 75-80 gallons so I dont think I did too bad compared to most people around here who are at half of normal Ive got enough to fill my orders and make my payments so Im for the most part happy

Wives figure we are nuts no matter what we do so don't worry. As long as you never wrecked all her pots and pans and such your okay.

Naturally going from 18 taps to 110 made for a big increase in syrup so it seemed like a great year for us. Had about 4 gallons of syrup last year and almost 30 this year. Sugar levels are really great from the 2 bushes I worked in this year. Now I want to see a "normal" year, if there is such a thing, and see what we get.
