    Default Sugaring in Missouri

We tapped on February 3rd and I got the last of the taps pulled yesterday. We had 42 taps out this year and during our five or six week season we made 29 5/8 gallons of syrup. It was a great season compared to last year, we made about six gallons but we had about a dozen less taps. We hope to expand a little next year building a new sugar house and reverse osmosis system. I still have some cleaning up to do but its about done.

if I do the math correctly, you got almost 30 gallons from 42 taps? that works out to close to .7 gal per tap...thats a ratio most sugarmakers would die for...

    what types of trees?

    sounds like a great season...

Good job! That's impressive for 42 taps. I'm hoping for 7-8 gal.
    Congrats

We have all hard maples and tap them about three feet off the ground with a hose running to a 4 1/2 gallon bucket. We get the buckets from a grocery store, they get their cake and donut icing in them.

Nearly the same as done, here in NE Kansas.

Pulled 10 taps a few minutes ago. 67 degrees outside, in the 70's tomorrow. No freezing weather predicted for at least a week.

The sap bags are just fly catchers and mouse traps the last few days.

Tilled 3 gardens this afternoon, planting potatoes later this week.

Way too short of a season this year.

Very amazing ratio. I only get about a 1/2 quart per tree. Most of my trees are tall streight pole type trees with small tops. I'm just getting started at turning woods into a sugarbush,,,, I've got a long way to go at thinning things out.
2012 200 taps on buckets,,, Built me a 2' X 11' arch,,, hope to put most on tubing next year.

    2011 100 taps on buckets, 30x 60 flat pan

2009 63 taps on buckets,,,, 30x60 flat pan
