    Default New Sureflo Setup questions

This of you with a Sureflo setup, I have about 40ish taps I want to put on vacuum instead of buckets on the ground. My question is, can I put a tank in the relative middle of them, along the driveway just out of the sun. Then run say 6 or so lines to the pump (which would be next to the tank) using the same 5/16 line I use for drop lines? Also, I will have 2 maybe 3 runs that are 100-150’ long and have about 6-10 taps on each of them. Is that too far? It is possible after the 1st year that I may go down to 40-50 taps if it is more than I can handle.

What would you say is the longest run I can get away with. The longest run could be about 200-300 with 10 taps on it making all the others 100 feet or less. This would also make emptying the collection tank easier as well.
I will switch to 3/16 drop lines most likely once I use up the roll of tubing I have.

I have been reading up on the plethora of info here on Sureflo setups and have a decent grasp on what I am going to need. I may do it this year at home on a much smaller scale just to make it easier and to see how it works out.

You should be fine. I think my longest run is about 200'.

Do you have a layout that could work well with some 1/2" mainline and then shorter laterals?

Don't use 3/16 drops. Stick with 5/16 on a Shurflo. Too likely for the tree to pull in sap from them when they cool down and freeze at night if the lines aren't frozen yet. 5/16 leaves some gasses and room to avoid that. Many of us using 3/16 tubing for natural vac still use 5/16 drop lines for just this reason.

2015 - Small operation. 25 buckets. One excited 5 year old and one 35 year old that feels 5 again.
2016 - One year older. New Homemade 2x4 Arch, Smoky Lake Pan and looking at 52 maples, 17 box elders and 2 walnut trees.
2017 - Shurflo 4008 hooked to 42 stingy silver maples and a few Norways. A couple buckets on sugars and Norways. 10 box elders.
    2018 - ...a few more taps.
2019 - ...more taps on 3/16 gravity. This spiral is heading downward in a hurry.
    2020 - 4x400 RO - RB20 (uh-oh!)

Agree on drops comment. Only use 3/16 for drops if you plan to use CV spouts as well.

As for max distance, depends on lots of factors. I have multiple 3/16 lines over 1000 feet (ones about 1200) with 20+ taps and the shurflo pulls a consistent 27inHg at the pump (and higher at each tap) without any recirc line. Mind you I have great elevation drop for most my lines, but do have one that's very shallow drop across 900ft (12 taps) and it's fine.

excelent info thank you! and I do use the CV's. I figure the difference in price is about $5-$10 based on the amount of taps I use. I can understand if you have 1000 taps, but for us tiny peoples under $100, it seems silly to not if it helps.
