Default Bottling with a Brewers Pot

I just bought a 5 gallon brewers port with a spigot on the bottom, and a dial thermometer above it for bottling our maple syrup. The dial thermometer is at a good location for brewing, but when bottling maple syrup, I typically need to know the temperature of the syrup at the bottom of the pot. Is there a way to extend the stainless steel temperature probe on the back of the thermometer down two inches to the bottom of the pot?

    Thanks,

Try unscrewing the thermometer and screwing in a 1' piece of pipe. Lift up on the end of the pipe a little at a time. Try not to bend t too much. The end of the thermometer should be lower in the pot.

We use a long digital candy thermometer with our 5 gallon brew pot.
