    Default Metal lathe refurbished

Hello everyone. I do some machining as a hobby. I had a south bend 9 inch model c. Recently got a good deal on a model a with a longer bed. Combined to two to make one really great machine! Fully refurbished it and tore it down to the bones. Replaced all the oilers. Been loving thee sick change gear box.

Here's the tool holder I made. Got sick of things rattling around on the table.

Nice work Love to see the older machines fixed up. I have an Atlas 12" and enjoy using it. 99% of all my tools are old cast iron and I like it that way. Jay

Thanks. I like the old machines too. It's like using a piece of history.

Really nice! We have a smaller version in my classroom. Nice to see someone who knows how to use one and enjoys it!

I've got an older atlas 12" lathe . Some time ago the forward and reverse shifter box broke two of the gear's IK replaced them and the first time I ran it they broke again. Any thoughts on what might have caused that ?

It's hard to say without looking at the machine, I've never worked on an atlas 12. I do know that the gears were made from ZAMAK which isn't the strongest material and really doesn't like shock loads. We're you by chance making interrupted cuts when they broke?

Very nice work! I inherited a lathe but haven't gotten a chance to get it home yet.

I was making a standard cut when it broke. I haven't been able to find where it is binding up. I am not real experenced with the lathe
