Default Same two trees 80 years apart.

This is a pic of my great uncle sugaring in the woods that I currently own, in March 1943. These same two trees are still being tapped.

That’s very cool and very special!

I do not have any history like that. Maybe my grandson can make a post like that in 30 years.

That is SO cool! How were you able to figure out the spot in the woods?

It is the location of the oldest sugarhouse site in our woods. It is on a high spot where they emptied the gathering tank into the sugarhouse. It is also the exact spot where I used to boil sap over an open fire when I was 11 or 12 years old. It's the sugarhouse shown in my signature pic (1929). It was gone before I was born, but there are remnants of the old Warren evaporator arch, as well as buckets, milk cans, etc. My family has owned this woods since the 1880s.

These are what's left of the buckets, that have not been used since around 1965. There is also a never used base stack with a 27" chimney pipe up there in my hay mow.Screenshot_20230115_084651_Gallery.jpgScreenshot_20230115_084709_Gallery.jpg

The second sugarhouse which used to be about 100 yards from my current one. Housed a 4x14 or 4x16 evaporator. Long-since demolished. This is the only picture that I have of it.Screenshot_20230115_084830_Gallery.jpg

May I ask if any of your children are involved in the sugar making process with you, or perhaps they are not old enough yet.

Both of my kids have helped out the past 12 years. My daughter just graduated from college and my son is in college. He still lives at home and will help when he can. Not sure about the distant future.
