    Default Maple Straws

Has anyone out there using a Anthony's Beehive Honey Stick
filling machine to make maple straws. Do they work?

I have no experience with one but know that filling maple syrup in straws has its own problems. You are not able to put the syrup in hot enough to keep the syrup from molding or fermenting. Also if a little dense sugar crystals form. You could try boiling them after you fill them but most straws will not stand up to that. The other option is to keep them in the freezer and only take a few out at a time to use when needed.

We do them one at a time by hand and have been doing them for years. One person can do about 100 per hour start to finish. We have a test batch on the counter to see how long they will last. So far it has been almost 4 years and they are still good, no mold, no sugar crystals.

We looked into the (scant) offerings for straw filling machines about 20 yrs ago. None were particularly appealing at that time, and I don't think there has been much of an improvement since then.
