Well fellow traders yours truly made the Maple News, a very well written article about buying sap. If you have the equipment to process extra sap don’t turn it down, what the article didn’t cover is the value of finished syrup to the buyer.
This Spring the seller delivered slightly over 4700 gallons of sap that averaged 1.7, I paid .31cent a gallon, roughly 1480 dollars, produced around 95 gallons of syrup that retails over 5500 dollars! Good deal for me!

We base the price off the bulk price of syrup in West Virginia, for true West Virginia produced bulk the price actually is 2.85 to 3.00 a pound, several years ago when I sold a lot of bulk I always got 3.00 dollars a pound, I’ve created to many customers to sell any bulk at the present time.

We had our state wide maple meeting last weekend, some producers have not noticed if sales have declined due to the high cost of fuel. I personally have seen a drop in sales, apparently a gallon of gas is more important than a gallon of syrup!

While on the subject of the price of sap, which I assume is the price you pay someone to bring the sap to you... or possibly to pick up from their tank... I have the following question: What is the usual payment for tapping someone else's tree? That is, when you do all the work and they are just letting you use their tree?
We’re pretty lucky I believe, last three years been paying .75 cent a tap. Working on another bush where there will be no sap hauling, offered that landowner 1 dollar a tap, rumor mill that some in Vermont pay up to 2 dollars a tap rent?
