    Default Sap Silos

What does everybody think about them. Anybody have one? What do you like or dislike about them. Freezing issues? Strategies to prevent freezing? Does the wash system work? How big of a pump is required? Will it work with a well pump? How much water does it take to wash one? I know all of these things vary with the size. Top feed or bottom feed? Foaming issues with top feed? Let me know your thoughts.

I dont have them, but did look into some. They look cool but the price tag kinda scared me away. Im sure they have their advantages and disadvantages like everything else. Just not economically feasible for me at this time.

they are working very well. high price tag but small footprint. Haven't had freezing issues but it's also not sitting in there for days. nice to unload a truck and go instead of filling several tanks. don't need to build a roof/shed as they are self-contained.

Where I see the cost benefit is not having to make the building larger to accommodate tanks inside - especially at the very large sizes these tanks come in.

Cons: high cost, lots of site prep (concrete base), better not mind heights (during setup), not really moveable.
Pros: never worry about storage again, small footprint.

Really happy with our two 8' x 25' silos this year. Never going back.

Are you satisfied with the wash system? Any issues with freezing? I'm looking at locating one directly adjacent to my sugarhouse with a "doghouse" to connect it to the building so that the valving and piping are accessible from the interior of the building. Is that how yours are set up?

Yes, wash system was fine. No freezing issues. Ours are free-standing apart (but close to) the sugarhouse with small doghouses to protect the plumbing.

Oooh - great idea! I'll add that to my list of bells and whistles I want in the new camp.
