Default 3/16 end of line gauge above or below lateral?

Does it matter if I have the gauge positioned on my 3/16 lateral (at the end/top of the line) above the line or below? It's still pulling vacuum either way but I wonder if I'm impacting the reading accuracy...

Best to keep the gage above the line to minimize any chance of sap getting to it and gumming it up. Its position would have no affect on accuracy. I bungee the gage to the tree and slip a clear plastic cup over the gage to provide some weather protection.

Ah, right - I didn't think of sap getting in there. It is behind the T of the last drop by about a foot but I guess it could back flow once losing vacuum. Thanks!
