Default Possible to get new foam cap inserts?

Hey all, like most of you I sterilize and use brand-spankin' new screw-on plastic bottle caps with the flattened foam inserts in them when bottling, ditto inserts when using Mason jars.

But as my collection of bottle caps in a bag marked 'used' grows, and my supply of caps marked 'new' dwindles, I can't help but wonder why they simply can't be re-sterilized and re-used.

What exactly is the issue? Is it the little foam inserts that are the reason new caps are supposed to be used each time? If so, can't we just buy those stupid little foam inserts on their own and use them with previously used caps?

Because I don't want to have to continually buy new caps, is why. It's only the insert that comes in contact with the syrup.

It makes as much sense to me, as say, having to buy a pair of jeans each time I buy underwear. All I want is the underwear, I have enough pairs of jeans.

@ Greenthumb...yes that's the basic ida, though those shown aren't designed for use with liquids.

Well, think about it....I don't need, or want to spend, any more money on caps when it's just the little pressed foam disc that actually comes in contact with the syrup and creates the seal. The cap basically just holds the seal in place.

ETA: thanks greenthumb for pointing me in the direction of this site, I think I can now easily find what I need. https://www.usplastic.com/catalog/it...875&catid=1185
