    Default -31 degrees

Minus 31 degrees Saturday morning in Canaan Valley, WV, only question I have is how cold would it have been if we didn’t have global warming?

The only person that could answer that is an old timer that walked uphill both ways to school.

ecp, perfect answer! I’ve met many in my lifetime that walked up hill to school in both directions, some even in my own family, just like how many licks to the center of a tootsie roll pop? The world may never know?

The low was supposed to be like 0! I had -19 on the porch, but the official station in the lowest spot in the valley had that -31. Typical inversion we get a lot. The top of the ridges were above 0. I figured I would tap at negative -10 to split the bark up real nice :P

actually the end of the 10day looks like a couple sap days? Hopefully it will change up, but there is a warm ridge and cold batteling it out in the models still. Havent tapped yet. 2021, tapped on 2/24. 2020 tapped on 2/4. Hope it stays cold since it was such a warm fall with no freezing temps until November!

Still too cold here during the day, I have the itch though, especially today with the sun out. I need to flush my lines but i can't do that until it's over 32, it was 12 this morning. I guess it's firewood cutting for today. I hope to start tapping in the next two weeks in Hardy County.

D@mn, dude, that's cold. I hope for your sake down south it doesn't go straight from -31 to 70s, or you won't have much of a season!

It's a pretty unique area I'm in though. Big valley with the floor at 3200' and ridges at 4400', so it comes close to the northern climate, and has 150"/yr average of snow. A lot being lake effect from great lakes. The winds can suck pretty bad though!
