I have put up some new lines and made new drops but not thinking of tapping for about another month.

Hello Mounder - This is your neighbor from Oregon that makes syrup in Iowa. We are thinking about a Smoky Lake. How do you like yours by now?

We like it very much. We purchased the hybrid pan several seasons ago and added the Corsair arch this year. It seems to be evaporating nicely. We are feeding wood on a stack temp now instead of the clock, which is also going well. Everyone at Smoky Lakes was great to deal with. We have quite a few of their things around the sugarhouse these days. Not a bad drive from our neck of the woods either, plus it gave us an excuse to spend a few days in Door County this summer!

Pulled my taps yesterday. Currently sitting at 1 gallon and a 1/2 pint of syrup made. I have 5 gallons of sap in the fridge from my trees and thanks to a fellow syrup maker have an additional 20 gallons of sap to boil. So today I'm doing the last boil of the year.

First Boil. Probably tapped a little early this year but missed out last year due to the weird weather. Have collected about 15 gallons of sap in the month since I tapped, time to boil some.

We tapped 175 trees last weekend (2/19/2022). Up from 100 last year. Weather reports showed favor for sap flow the following week. And as usual, the weather did not pan out as they reported. First flow was today (2/20/2022).

Weather men have the only job where you can be wrong 50% of the time or greater and still hold that job.

    Happy sugaring to all!

Good sap run 2/28 to 3/1 collected 12 gallons out of 3 trees. Started my second boil of the year. I have about a gallon of super sweet concentrate from my first boil.
