when did small brothers stop using lead in there evaporators?
when did small brothers stop using lead in there evaporators?
Around 1994 I believe. If there’s any question, get a lead-check test kit at the hardware store and check the solder

That was leader that stopped in 1994 some went to 1998 or 1999 before silver solder was the new norm. This was writen by Red Roof Maple.
Rodney Algier was one of the Partners in The Small Brothers company. When Small Brothers was bought out by Waterloo in 1995 Rodney started the Algier Sheet Metal company. Rodney wasn't allowed to sell maple equipment for 5 years as part of the deal of the buy out. About 5 years later Algier went out of business being forced out by Lapierre, Waterloo, Small. Rodney's son owns the Thor evaporator company.
That was posted 2/15/11 on maple trader.

Yes, you are correct. Leader Evaporator started transitioning in 1994. The others mostly in 1997 or 1998. Since then, the majority have stopped soldering (except for repairs to older equipment) and gone to welded equipment. Thank you for refreshing my memory on that. That was leader that stopped in 1994 some went to 1998 or 1999 before silver solder was the new norm.

I had to stop and think alittle on the lead thing, there use to be so many manafactures of maple equipment and now they are all being swallowed up by the bigger companys. I had a small brothers pre heater hood on my old leader evaporator. I know that had lead solder in it because the melting point of the solder is way less than silver solder. I had to do some repairs to it when I got it,it had froze and split a few things that needed repair.
