    Default MID COAST MAINE QUESTION-help

We started the season off great...3 days ago when the weather warmed all flow slowed to barely a trickle.

Will there be more sap running? or is it an abrupt early end?

    Thoughts?

From what I read everyone is waiting to see if the cooler temperatures (both day and of course freezing at night) later next week bring the flow back. I have no idea what the odds are. Kind of a holding pattern till then. Good luck!
Two 2x4 concrete block arches with three steam trays each
Tapping in Mount Vernon since 2016, 30 to 70 taps, 5/16" tube to 1.5 to 3.5 gallon buckets, some trees on collective gravity tubing to 5 gallon buckets.

Mostly sugar maples, a few reds on 200 year old homestead

How long ago did you tap? If not on vacuum the max you will usually get is 4-6 weeks. If you tapped less than 3 weeks ago, then you need to look at the trees. Are they sugar maples or a red or silver maple. Reds and silvers will bud ahead of the sugars, often by 7-20 days. If the buds opened on the trees, it's over, if all but the sugars opened, you still have a good chance if the weather gets cold enough soon enough. Being on the coast might moderate your temperatures too much to get a good freeze, but keep your fingers crossed.
Dave Klish, I recently ordered a 2x6 wood fired evaporator from A&A Sheet Metal which I will be converting to oil fired
Now have solar, 2x6 finish pan, 5 bank 7x7 filter press, large water jacketed bottler, and tankless water heater.
Recently bought another Gingerich RO, this one was a 125, but a second membrane was added thus is a 250, like I had.
    After running a 2x3, a 2x6, 3x8 tapping from 79 taps up to 1320 all woodfired, now I'm going to a 2x6 oil fired and a 200-425 taps.
