I just called Bascom's this morning and they quoted me 2.50/lb for "field run" dark robust in 55g drum. I'm not familiar with the field run term. I called another producer here in Maine and dark robust was 3.00/ lb.
My season was a bust and I am considering buying a barrel to repack. I'll have to buy 1 barrel at a time as I don't have the space for more.

Thanks Dr. Tim for managing the throttle.
    2010 - barrel stove & a steam table pan. 10 - 12 trees
2011 - same deal as the year before. My son is now hooked along with me.
2012 - Took over the garden shed and set up a Mason 2x3. Hoping to tap 30 - 50 trees. Ended up with 100 taps out.
Finished the season with 16 gallons made
    2013- - Purchased a Smokey Lake 2 x 3 Hybrid pan. WOW, what a difference!!

Field run means that you may need to filter it and adjust density before packing. You may not either its a toss up.

It's basically like Nate said. "Field run" is exactly how we bought it from other producers before we re-filter, repack etc. We only sell field run to other producers who have the equipment and knowledge to repack it to supplement their own production if they run short.

Was that for you to buy, or you to sell?
Dave Klish, I recently ordered a 2x6 wood fired evaporator from A&A Sheet Metal which I will be converting to oil fired
Now have solar, 2x6 finish pan, 5 bank 7x7 filter press, large water jacketed bottler, and tankless water heater.
Recently bought another Gingerich RO, this one was a 125, but a second membrane was added thus is a 250, like I had.
    After running a 2x3, a 2x6, 3x8 tapping from 79 taps up to 1320 all woodfired, now I'm going to a 2x6 oil fired and a 200-425 taps.

The way I read sg’s post is they are talking about buying a barrel of syrup so the price mentioned is what bascoms is SELLING syrup for.

Probably worth clarifying that before people think they’re going to be paid $2.50 a lb for DR deliver to bascoms loading dock.

Yesterday I called Bascoms for pricing to sell syrup to them.
    Golden $2.20
    Amber. $2.15
    Dark $2.05
    VD. $1.85
These prices are most likely mid season interm prices and will probably be changed or set come May.

ouch that's lower than I was expecting, but they hold the cards. Does anyone know what the organic premium is looking like this year?

Does anyone know what butternuts prices are? Generally they are better than other buyers when you take into account the bonus for being over a certain poundage and bonus for having your own barrels. Also in the past I have heard its one price for all grades there which would help in not getting docked for darer grades.

Well that’s also mid season prices plus it’s higher than last year. I definitely wouldn’t rush to sell any at the point until the season ends and the price is set
