Had one of those windshield/bug days...just collected 22l of nice clear sweet sap from my trees....and carelessly grabbed a tea towel to mop up a spill...and my Smokey Lake hydrotherm went flying and crashed to its death :-/

Glad I'm enough of a packrat to have kept my previous therm and cup, so not in the weeds. But still that was a major bummer. Hope Cooke's still carries them!

    2020 - 18 taps/8 trees...890.04l sap...gave away about 170l, 30l snafu'd....23l total for me from approx 690l
    2021 - 18 taps/8 trees...395l sap, 12 l syrup
    2022 - 18 taps/8 trees....7 sugars 1 red due to #2 having surgery so had the season off....582l sap, 18.5l syrup

That's spooky...i just collected 22 gallons too, but i didn't break my sap hydrometer! A solid 2.0% sugar and nice and clear.
1 of the pails of sap i had saved ( 4 days) was just starting to get cloudy, the other 4 were clear.
40 gallons to boil tomorrow and fingers crossed for more sap!

Finally had a good run today. Surprising because it only went down to 0 here last night. All tanks full by dark. Heres hoping for a few more days like that and hopefully salvage my season.

So I cleaned out my tank yesterday morning so that I can start test boiling batches as my silvers are starting to flower.. collected about 1/2 barrel (so about 22.5Gals) between 1pm and 9pm last night. Tested that batch and it's good. So pumped it into my head tank this morning so I can test boil today's collection.. turned the pump on around 9am when the lines were thawed..and I already have 1/2 barrel full already!!! Testing boiling it now and it's still good so going to pump into the head tank to separate from this afternoon's haul.. This might just save my season.. Of the six buckets I have out, only 2 are producing anything significant so I'm convinced setting up the pump system saved my season this year!
    The trees are giving today!
Going to be a long evening especially if this afternoon's collection is still good.. might mean I'm burning through about 60Gal of sap..not sure I have enough wood actually!

paulslund, this afternoon's collection should keep for today...I've collected and made wonderful syrup from late-season sap that was around a week old when I got it!

I just collected about 40l and know I'm getting more later this evening. Time to get the evap fired and going!

Hi Galena. I was more worried about the sap going buddy as my silver buds are starting to open up..

So my longest boil to date last night. Starting prepping around 2pm yesterday, go the the evap fired up around 3PM. Had about ~50Gal in the Head Tank (almost max capacity). Then around 10PM I transferred the remaining about ~12-15Gal that had accumulated in the barrel since I fired up (did a test boil first) and kept on boiling. Took everything off around 3am. About maybe 20L in the tank now that is looking pretty yellow and cloudy. I'm glad I boiled last night and kept testing the sap. These last few batches have been very dark. I think this might be it for my silvers.. while the silvers always look like they are budding (their buds start to expand even before the season) I can see that they are opening up and have that fuzzy look as the flowers start to push out. Hoping this cold rejuvenates that few sugars I have so I can have a small boil, but I think it might be clean up time.

3rd boil this week...hanging on has been worthwhile and yesterdays run was good.
Maybe a trickle Thurs. and Friday and another good run Saturday.

What a crazy season so far.
Did a big 2 day boil to start on Mar 20-21. Pulled off almost 24L.
Ran a nice easy 1 day boil on Mar 27 that produced about 6L.
Have enough sap stored up to run again this Saturday.
If we can hit 35L for the season it's a complete success to us. We put on less than 40 trees this year.

You can definitely see the tree tips are getting fatter but not budded out.

Our buckets and spiles will be pulled, scrubbed and put away by noon on Saturday.

    Drew.
