Hey Big_Eddy! Yeah you usually start a bit earlier than I do, over here in Leeds/Grenville/Lanark. Won't even be setting the spiles til first week of March probably. Still not 100% sure if I will or not due to family stuff, Covid killing my business so looking for something else, etc etc. Fun stuff!

Yar! I'm getting excited. New snowshoes and plans to tap more trees this year. Looking into buckets, drops, and spiles. I need to automate things a bit more, and have the ability to collect more sap. I'm going to check into some bakeries to see if I can find some food grade buckets before shelling out Canadian tire money on buckets. Lets hope for a great spring and awesome run!

Stating to like like early to Mid March...Longer days and the time changes the 14th. That would suit me fine!

Hey all, am looking for ceramic fibre insulation for my new barrel evaporator. Anyone got some to spare? HD US sells it but not HD Can...someone explain that to me...

Just got home from Crappy Tire with 16 firebricks, and ordered a bunch of the insulation stuff off of Amazon. Didn't even think of CDL tbh. Would they carry that stuff?

Hello all, getting close to sap time.
I was actually thinking about putting my taps in next week. Calling for 3-4 days into the plus temps. Anyone else??

Depends on where you are, Ontario's a big place! We plan to tap in tomorrow, we're in Halton region. Looks ok but not great for the first week but should have good run after that if you can believe the forecast!
    2021 - 84 taps, 50L from 2100L
2020 - 100 taps on buckets, 21L syrup from 2700L so far (FEB 26-Mar 13) and then the pandemic hit! End of our season!
    2019 - 62 taps on buckets, 95L syrop from 3215L sap
    2018 - 62 taps, collecting by hand, 90L syrop from 3200L sap
2017 - Lapierre Waterloo Small mini pro with 40 taps
2014 - 2016 40 taps making one or two batches on a 2x6 flat pan over an open arch as it would have been done in 1900
