    Default Tap Leaking Tree?

This is one of my best producing maples, which is leaking sap (now frozen) as of yesterday. I haven’t tapped yet and hopefully it’s not a split from a tap last season. No evidence of woodpecker or sap sucker holes either. Tree is otherwise in good health. Should I hold off tapping this one until next season?

I've never seen anything like that. Maybe there's a crack leaking out snowmelt from above that's freezing. Try checking the sugar.

    And I would tap it.

I have some that do that periodically. If I tap them I only do one tap or if they are smaller skip it. Never figured out why it happens, could be a wind shake split it.
