Default Making an airtight barrel stove kit door

Does anyone have any advice on making the door from a barrel stove kit air tight?

I initially tried just glueing in a flat rope gasket around the perimeter of the door. The door clamps tight on the gasket on the hinge side of the door but still leaves a gap on the side opposite of the hinges.

Most barrel stove doors don't have a handle for closing the door, you only push it over a stop. You may try to incorporate a handle someway so that it would apply a little pressure against the rope gasket which would seal it better.
