Took it apart and did some cleaning. The bearings are rusted & need replaced. There is some rust inside the cylinder. Dirt daubers plugged up the ports. Minor surface rust on the cylinder walls and some on the drum. You could see where some moisture collected in the bottom and sat for years and years. The vanes were gummed in with old oil. I got them out & cleaned up. I don't know whether I'll be able to save it or not. Still waiting on a reply from Gast. I'm sure they'd be happy to sell me a new one. Has anyone honed a cylinder on one of these? The rust isn't deep, but a machined surface is obviously required for a good seal. The drum is a shade over 3" in Diameter and 3" long. The cylinder bore is 3.7". I'll get some pics posted. I sure would appreciate any advice or insight. If I can get it to work I'll be building the oiler, oil reclaimer & moisture traps.
