Pretty sure it’s the fence wire that’s grown into the tree.
I cut down a huge ash tree on my property last year and hit an old steel fence post. It was completely grown into the tree

I'm confused. People use property line trees for fence posts all the time. Maybe I'm missing something.
EDIT: I see it now. Took me awhile.

The deed to my property references fence lines that are long gone. The only parts that you can find? Bits of wire sticking out of the middle of old trees!

Confused here too? I now see the fence wire grown into the tree after someone mentioned it and i turned my lap top sideways too. But that is very common on one of my sugarbushes wher I hang 100 taps. Every tree has several runs of wire in them.

I was thinking someone spread manure or lime/ash possibly and it git on his tubing.

Actually I am certain that it is liquid cow manure.

That's very unfortunate, and maybe suspicious. Most guys know where and about how far that stuff goes as it's being dispersed. Unless strong winds took it from the field and into the edge of the woods and the guy just wasn't aware of it's travel. Either way, might have to have a conversation with the landowner/farmer/tractor operator.
