Smokey Lake GAS EVAP - Ontario ?
I'm brand spanking new to all this and just like another thread started today I have my sights on a Smokey Lake set up. With that said Im curious if anyone out there (Ontario especially) has the Natural Gas Evap ? Pros - Cons ? Will the local utilities provide 2 psi at a residence ? This will be a hobby for me and with no free wood and a NG line already at my house this unit caught my attention.
OP, I cannot give too much info on the specific model but to my knowledge, NG that is already in place is significantly cheaper than buying LP trucked in or via tanks. That said, NG burns by even less BTUs per cubic foot than propane with a ratio of about 2:1. And compared to oil (130k BTU) propane being at 95k BTUs. So it is going to take a significant amount of NG to produce the heat needed to boil. While it is definitely feasible, you will need a good amount of it.
On the plus side, it’s already at your house, and I guarantee you will never have to clean the bottom of your pans!

I don't have any experience with that evaporator but I'm pretty sure it would just be a conversion kit on the nozzles from propane to NG, just like appliances. You'd need to get the pressure available at your house checked because most appliances can operate below 2psi.

You may need a larger pressure regulator for the necessary volume of NG. I suggest you contact Smoky Lake then your NG supplier to see. Some of that might be the size of the NG burners, being a hobby size might not be an issue compared to a much larger set up.
Dave Klish, I recently ordered a 2x6 wood fired evaporator from A&A Sheet Metal which I will be converting to oil fired
Now have solar, 2x6 finish pan, 5 bank 7x7 filter press, large water jacketed bottler, and tankless water heater.
Recently bought another Gingerich RO, this one was a 125, but a second membrane was added thus is a 250, like I had.
After running a 2x3, a 2x6, 3x8 tapping from 79 taps up to 1320 all woodfired, now I'm going to a 2x6 oil fired and a 200-425 taps.
Thanks for the thoughts. With the whole covid thing going on my local utility is not responding to calls or emails unless urgent. I guess questions on a Sap set up don't fall into that category in their eyes. I'll post back if I hear anything . SL did advise 2 psi is required for their small unit with ( 3 ) 75,000 but burners. My preference would be the larger version 2 x4 with 5 burners.
