I was expecting better. Was just a little better than 50 gph. One of my issues the flue pan is 15 years old, the newer pans with taller flues get a better rate. Also, this summer I’m going to have the burner checked and adjusted to try to improve the boil.

50 is good as far as Im concerned. I am only getting 30 with mine but its very early in my homemade setup. Hoping to get things dialed in over the course of the next season

I guess what I should have asked is if we get a little over 80 now, can I expect the same performance with oil?

I was always told it would increase because it’s a constant heat as compared to opening and closing the doors to fire. But with all the additions to your arch I guess time will tell. That’s why this summer I’m going to see if mine can be fine tuned for improved efficiency.

From what Ive been told, in order to get the same GPH out of oil you would have to send a lot of heat (fuel) out the stack. You definitely notice the constant burn with oil and lack of opening door and losing heat by firing with wood. The catch with oil is you would need to mimic the amount of flame you had with wood which usually means a fair amount of fuel

Yup, I'm sure the consistency of oil will be right there with wood, without the lulls, I know we would try not to fire when we were close to a draw, and we usually get a draw every time we fire, I'm really looking forward to being able to focus more on the filtering, and filling, not firing will let us pay more attention to everything else, thanks again guys

The best part about oil is shutdown. Last night during our final boil, we had a drawoff literally 30 seconds before shutdown. Never would have got there with wood because we would have been in cool down mode. You can run the rigs full bore until you’re nearly out of sap. No 1+ hour cool down.

It's been my understanding that wood will boil faster then oil but you have to be on top of it nonstop. Maybe the new high efficiency oil fired are better. You have to work a lot harder with wood to keep a good consistent temperature. If I wanted to work harder I would go back to buckets, wood fired and get rid if my RO and filter press.

Now the only thing I'm wondering, with the AUF/AOF that I've added, I'm wondering if I should sell the arch and build a new one?20200212_125819.jpg

Does anyone have a 2x8 leader reverse fired arch, or any other brand of reverse fired arch that they would be willing to give me some measurements?
