    Default Tapping 2020

    Hello sappers,
Another season is upon us. We plan on tapping next Friday. As the forecast looks now. With a few cold days the first week of March. Shaping up to be a good season. If the 3 rd week of March is not to warm we should be making syrup into April. Our test taps are all running over 2% , hope everyone has a great season.

    Hello fellow sugaring folks,
I am planning to get started this week. I was planning on tapping this coming weekend and may get some taps in on Saturday. I lost my Uncle this morning and his funeral will be this coming weekend. Kind of tough, last one that was still living. Sure did enjoy a lot of deer and fish camps with him and my dad. Look forward to a good season sugaring, good luck to everyone.

All in Saturday, some holes were wet when drilled, Northeast corner of Lake County. Still 8" snow on ground but this weeks weather looks good.

collected from the 50 taps we put in yesterday late in the day. About 20% of the bags were full or over flowing. Most of the others had between 2 and three gallons each. Haven't transferred it yet to my holding tank outside the sugar house will do that tomorrow. I'm guessing we collected between 80 and 100 gallons of sap. Once I get it transferred i'll have have a more accurate number. getting ready to boil as soon as we have 100 gallons in the tote. good luck all still have a few buckets to get hung for the neighbor. Probably get that done tomorrow. After collecting today the tubing system is looking more to my liking and less labor intensive. going to be a definite for next year, getting to old to handle all these heavy bags and buckets. Good Luck All.

I am just now getting into the swing of things. I am a backyard weekend guy and had a nice week night boil last night (rare for me). Anyway sap is running hard right now, gonna be tough to stay caught up this week.

Got all the sap transfer from the collection tank to the storage tote from Monday - 115 gallons from 50 taps. Collected today not as big a run maybe 60 - 70 gallons.

Collected today and that put the storage tank up to 225 gallons. Tested at 2.2 % sugar plan on boiling tomorrow, should take about 5.5 hrs to get it through the evaporator, barring any unforeseen difficulties. not bad for 50 taps and 3 colllections
