All depends really on if you are using buckets or tubing. If full vacuum setup you are basically leasing the land. So I’ve seen prices at 4$ per tap and higher and as low as 2$ per tap. I looked into it a couple years ago. But decided not to go that route.

Our last boil was on the 4th. The sap quality was going downhill fast and what was in the lines as we washed up on the 5th and 6th was milky and turning to snot - no way we could have boiled it and made syrup I'd be proud to put my name on. I'm sure some sap has been running down the bark the last few weeks but the trees were starting to bud out so it wouldn't be worthwhile. Had it been a bad year I might have been tempted to try to get 1 or 2 more days. Last time I tried that the sap turned ropey overnight and it took hours to drain the tanks onto the ground!

I managed to collect 484 L of sap in the week after Easter, Brix level was down to 2.2 from 2.7. Had to be selective on some buckets to assure sap quality and pulled some taps as they were starting to dry out. The last 3 days I pulled out 1/3 of my taps on each day.

Total for the season was just under 2800 L after 48 days - much longer season than I expected. My collection graph is attached.
