Like I said previously, this just ain’t my year. Earlier this week my shurflow died. Replaced it with a different pump. Yesterday evening had about 500 gallons of sap. Decided to test the RO for this season on 175 gallons. Ran the RO for 90 minutes and took the 175 gallons to 25 gal of concentrate @10%. Right at the 90 minute mark, the 3/4 hp Procon motor decided to ****. Hopefully it’s just the thermal protection, but I just bought it last year and was able to run it for over 8hrs at a time.

I think it’s time to start making cheese

This trader thing kicks you out after about 3 min of down time very annoying!

After spending a half hour on the phone with the phone company I was ready to pull my hair out! And I dont have much left!

Off to try to do something productive like make syrup. Have 220 gals on sap that had some ice in it. And some new valves to put on the front pan. Maybe pictures?

Didn't expect any sap today as the high was supposed to be 34. But it got up to 38 with clear skies and the warm sun shining, so the the sap poured in. The sun! I'd almost forgotten what it looked like!

    P Diamond,
That is our Great Grand Daughter Chloe Lee. She is one and her first time getting a tour of Papa and Nana's sugarhouse. Hoping her and her dad Mike may take up this sugaring thing someday.

The picture with Mike and the trees is at his sugarbush (potential) I walked it with him and I think there are 1000 taps (on small medium and a few large hard maples) the land is running up hill with a gentle slope to a creek coming to the road. We have more to talk about on that possible project! But very interesting if your into syrup. He has the woods we would just need to get at it and set it up if he wants to do some work.

I did get the new valves installed on the old King rig. These were bigger than I expected. But getting used to them. Closer to the rig and much safer on the off side of the rig for visitors. Boiled in the sap and made anothe 7.5 gallons of syrup. We will rest for a day or two.

    on the draw off side:

on the other side of the rig:

much more room for our 200 to 300 visitors to safely pass around the arch, during the Up coming Maple Taste and Tour weekend in NW PA. (www.pamaple.org) This allowed me to cap the valve outlet, so even if a kid figured out how to work the grip valve nothing will come out.

the money shot, Albion "ICE" Syrup!: It gets this light when you have ice in the containers almost every day you gather! Just got to 68 gallons of syrup, approaching 50% of a normal crop. Some folks just getting ready to tap this weekend tor the big runs next week!

Will be talking a lot about Golden Delicate this year on the Maple Tour!

    Regards,
    Chris

That photo of Chris holding up his granddaughter is great! Here's two of me today. The first one shows me pressing though the syrup using my Filter Press by Daryl. The saucepan in the foreground has very hot water in it to be thrown into the feeder pot at the end of pressing. Then my wife catches the watered down syrup in the same saucepan for adding to the next batch. The long handled stainless steel spoon in the feeder pot is the one that my wife uses to stir the DE in the feeder pot (when she's not taking my picture):

And the second one shows me posing as if counting the pint jars we canned today - the 6 gallons worth from Monday and Tuesday's run:

    Howard,
You have a very clean operation/ kitchen. Syrup looks very good packed in the glass too.
Thanks for taking the time to post these! Awesome. Hey those presses work nice!

I like those jars. Can I ask where you got them?

Hopefully I'll be bottling this weekend. I have 10 gallons of almost syrup waiting to be finished and another 200 gallons of 2% sap waiting to be collected. Saturday/Sunday look to be nice days for a good run....good thing I'm off work Friday to get ready.

    sbedilion,

I drive through Lancaster County every June, and when I do I pick up my jars and lids order from Fillmore Container. They are a very nice company to deal with. Here's the web page of the bottles that I buy:

    https://www.fillmorecontainer.com/a1...2ct-12-oz.html

They only cost 50 cents each and the lids are just 9 cents each (in the quantities that I buy). Here's the website for the lids I use:

    https://www.fillmorecontainer.com/38...plastisol.html

Lancaster County is a long way from Pittsburgh, but if you want to drive up to my farm, I could sell you some that I bought last spring, and I'm just 50 minutes NE of Pittsburgh. Come on Sunday when the sap is running, and I'll show you my set up.
