Default Anyone tapping in PA yet?

I was wondering if anyone has tapped yet. The weather seems perfect but I wasn’t sure if the sap is running since it never really got cold for any length of time.

I am east of Pittsburgh and haven't tapped yet. But weather is messing with me. Some of the forecasts arent even showing enough freezing at night out thru mid Jan. Hoping things shape up for a good season but this mild weather has me concerned for an early/quick spring and short season.

Thanks. I’m relatively new to this and was doubting myself, especially after I seen people on a maple syrup Facebook group already getting sap.

Haven't started yet. In SE PA we haven't had many straight days under freezing. This is only my 2nd year, so what do I know...LOL

I did just finish a 55gal drum stove that will hold 2 large pans on top of it. Looking forward to trying that. Last year it was the turkey fryer and propane.

I have to admit that I am responsible for the warm weather. I have been building a maple syrup kitchen and have been appreciating the warm weather which lets me work outside without freezing my fingers. I should be done by Thursday, after which, according to the long term forecast, winter is scheduled to begin!

Ok guys and girls we have Howard to blame! Someone should step up each year and be the person we can blame. Huummmmm, I will think about it for next year. Remind me if I forget.

I hope we get a week or two of cold weather to be ready for a mid Feb start of season. Keep watching the forecast if you can put together 4 or 5 days of freeze thaw temps then you might make a pile of early syrup. May be froze up for 2 weeks after that too.
Just never know. At some point you just have to go with what you feel like, and what mother nature is going to give you for good sap days.
    Keep boiling!
